Barcelona women match against Madrid faces kickoff delay

FC Barcelona has requested that Sunday’s women’s first-team match against Real Madrid be moved from 5:00pm to 7:00pm due to the risk posed by extreme rainfall and flooding in the area.

The club announced in a statement on its X handle that all activities at its facilities would be suspended from 8:00pm on Saturday until 2:00pm on Sunday, in line with measures established by the competent authorities.

The suspension covers sporting activities and training sessions, as well as cultural, social, leisure and other scheduled events.

The women’s match at Spotify Camp Nou remains under review, with Barcelona saying it is in contact with Liga F and the relevant competition authorities.

“FC Barcelona has requested that the match kick off at 7.00pm, two hours later than originally scheduled,” the club said.

According to Barcelona, the proposed delay would provide additional time to ensure the stadium is “fully operational” and complies with all safety requirements.

The club also said the later kickoff would help “facilitate spectators’ journeys and access to the stadium” amid the difficult weather conditions.

A final decision is expected on Sunday morning, depending on how the weather situation develops and on instructions from the competent authorities.

“The Club will inform members and supporters of any updates through its official channels,” Barcelona said.
